yMail - email client

yMail is an advanced no-frills email client with powerful spam-deleting
tools. How can it be advanced and no-frills at the same time? Well, it
won't let you produce hand-crafted HTML emails with cute borders and
flashing icons (Brrrr!) but it will give you control of your incoming
mail with programmable spam filters.

If you've never used an email program before, yMail probably isn't for
you. On the other hand, if you spend a lot of time reading and writing
email and you're not satisfied with the other software you've tried,
then you should give it a whirl. (If you're drowning in spam, try it
anyway!)

Spam Filters
yMail includes Bayesian filters which you can train on spam and
non-spam emails. My hit rate is enormous, with perhaps one spam getting
through every couple of days, 10% going into my Spam folder and 90%
getting deleted from my ISP's mail server before I download them.

Scanning
yMail can also be used as a mail scanner - you don't have to use the
email portion of the program, just use yMail to preview and
automatically delete spam before downloading into your regular email
software.

Attachments
yMail doesn't open or display attachments automatically, and is
therefore much more secure than programs which do. It warns you if you
try and open attachments, and refuses point-blank to run executable
files. It won't render HTML emails, so it's proof against spam which
runs off and loads web bugs when you preview it (That's one trick they
use to confirm your email address is valid)
It also ignores receive notifications, javascript, vbscript and
monkeyscript. Ok, I made the last one up, but if they invent a new kind
of script or worm, yMail will continue to ignore it. (If you receive an
HTML formatted email you can click a special link to open the message
in your default browser, but I recommend against this unless you know
the sender AND know what they're sending you. yMail will strip out all
the html and show the text in the preview window anyway, so you'll have
a pretty good idea of the content AND you won't see
flashen-blinken-lights or advertising banners.)

Why 'BETA'?
Software is never finished, and email programs are very complex. I've
been using yMail since March 2003 and have yet to lose a single email
or experience an unexplained crash, but it might just not work for you.
Therefore, no guarantees.

Other features
Remind-Me-Please is integrated with yMail, giving you control of task
lists and upcoming events.

Interesting program - new to me. 3MB download is a bit big for a
relatively simple program. Looks like you can only configure one email
account too. I would've like to have had the ability to import a contact
list also.

Pimmy is smaller and a better choice.

Any other thoughts on this item?
