Yet another RAID Question

Hello ALL,

Believe it or not, I am finally getting the hand of all of this NEW stuff,
well new to me. OK, I have my RAID 0 setup with 2 identical HD's (335GB @
7800 x 2) and than I have my External HD (750GB @ 7800). Am I coreect in
saying, "that for me to get the most Bang for the Buck, and to utilize the
RAID 0 to its full potential, ALL of my programs need to be installed on the
RAID 0 Drive?" Than am I also correct in saying, "The programs loaded and
run from the External HD (Or any HD's which are NOT part of the RAID 0), will
NOT benefit from the RAID 0 setup"?

If both of those points are in fact correct, than I think I understand RAID
0...

Your former assumptions seems correct but your conclusion is flawed.
Understanding the former does not make an expert in RAID0. There's a lot
more to it. In the technology world one tries to develop a model in ones
mind and when a situation arises, one tests new ideas against the model.
Every once in a while, new conclusions break down because the model is
flawed and then you update the model with new learning. But the strange
thing is that the model only needs to be correct to the point where you need
to deal with it. It make no difference up until that point. The deeper you
delve into a subject the more detailed and accurate the model needs to be.

Thank You Bob F! I miss spoke, I in no way shape or form would even
speculate that I am in expert in RAID. I meant to say, if the above
expressions are true, than I finally understand that part of RAID, but my
understanding is from a laymens point of view, one who never dealt with RAID
until this past week. When I purchased my HP m9150f from CC, I never thought
it included RAID, heck its retail machine. Got it home tooled around with
it, went through the associated papers and there it was in all of its glory,
"Setting Up RAID Config Using Intel Matrix Storage Technology". And so I
started to rebuild my Brain Function or your Model to include this new (to
me) technology and to also try to determine its worth, to me not in dollars
and cents. For every negative review, I found a positive review, ultimately
realizing, its a simple matter of personal choice, as most things end up
being in the long run. See my problem is, a new thing appears, some people
will seek answers and after hearing 2 + 2 = 4, they go on there merry way,
and here is where my problem starts, I want to know why.....................

Thanks for the kind words Gunny. Good start...keep the model growing. That
process is better than bumper sticker education any day.

You run "everything" from the raid drvie c: Use your externel drive to Ghost
and Update the image of C: Vista Business and Ultimate has this backup method
built in.
