Year of the big wait

J

johns

That is all I've done this year .. wait. Wait for XP SP2
to come out. Wait for MOHAA: Pacific Campaign.
Wait for Far Cry patch 1.2 Wait for Doom 3, and
it still is not here where I can actually go and get it.
What are these guys doing all day long? In the time it
has taken them to get off their royal butts and produce
something, I could have plowed 500 acres with a tooth
pick. I just read where we get to wait for a Doom 3
demo. And even more ... XP SP2 beta 3 just got
sent out to the testers. Far Cry patch 1.2b will probably
never come out. At some point I predict that there will
be so much broke, that nothing will actually work,
and there will be no way to tell who is breaking what.
Makes me think they really don't want to fix it. If they
did, their Off-shoring-Imbecile-BossGoons would fire
them and grab all the money. When something gets
this big, it is no longer a product. It is a service, and
it needs public overseers who can guarantee quality
or keep it off the market. So where the crap is SP2 ?

Maybe the name of this newsgroup should change to

You could always get off your "royal butt" and help them out.

Be careful what you wish for. SP2 will only break more programs deemed by
the OS to be "insecure", which will require more patching.

All of these video card problems are directly traceable
to OS changes and video games that can't keep up.
Look at Doom 3 .. rolling the CAT drivers back to
OpenGL or something "about" OpenGL. The Far Cry
patch failure was mainly due to it being applied to
systems that simply cannot run at that level, or don't
have the latest D3D stuff .. or DO have the latest
directx9.c This is a big dog chasing its tale, and
somebody is going to have to stop and set a standard
that we can stabalize. SP2 is now on the books as
breaking a lot of programs. I'll guarantee it is going
to break some expensive games, and as we well know,
UBI certainly isn't going to rush the new patches to
us. What I'm just thrilled about is I just managed to
get my CAD labs stable and stop SolidWorks from
crashing all over the place ( it is OpenGL, and there
must be 4 or 5 update patches trying to compensate )
by loading the latest Intel Chipset drivers .. and a dollar
to a donut, SP2 is going to take all of that down again,
and Intel will get around to updating drivers in about
2 years.

oh geeze .. my good old E-6-2 days. I'm still going
to find Sgt Murrey someday and kick his smart ass.
He's probably in a rest home.

Like my CAD labs. It took me years to figure out why SolidWorks
crashes like it does. It is an outdated OpenGL that has been
patched over and over to run under XP .. and somehow live
with D3D calls. I found a way. That will come to an end I'm sure.
I'll bet this newsgroup lites up bigtime, just as soon as SP2 is
ready .. and MS updates start pushing it whether you want it
or not .. or whether CAT x.x is ready for it .. which it won't
be.

When were you in? Did you have a Signal MOS?

I was a 31M then 31R (same job more or less they just updated the MOS
system).
