XPS 410 Sound

I have a new Dell XPS 410 with dual harddrives. These are the 7200 rpm
drives.
Question: Does thsi computer suppose to make a constant clicking
sound during operation? Is this the
sound of data being written to the drive? My old Dell Dimension M166a
did not make this sort of sound or noise.
A Dell trouble shooter seems to think that the sound is do to a
defective fan on the video card. I just do not know.
Any other owners with this machine getting the same sound?

I failed to mention that it is running Vista Ultimate.

if constant, probably a fan. If it coincides with drive use, could be the
HD. some Dell's in the BIOS have a setting for the HD for performance or
quiet mode....you could try that.

I had a similar issue with my hard drive in a Dell Inspiron 6000. The hard
drive was loud, making clicking noises when it searched for data. Happens in
all operating systems, not just Vista. After my hard drive failed - I'm
guessing this was an unrelated issue - I got a replacement drive which did
not make the noise. You can tell if it is a fan. A fan would make a quick,
very consistent clicking noise. Hard drive is a regular noise, but it isn't
as often, and it sound - doesn't sound like a fan noise. Use your
imagination

THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED. THE SOUND WAS A LOOSE AND DANGLING EXTRA
HARDDRIVE HARNESS TO BE USED IN INSTALLING YET ANOTHER HARDDRIVE.
THE HARNESS PLUG TERMINAL WAS ACTUALLY HANGING DOWN OVER THE VIDEO
CARD FAN AND MAKING CONTACT WITH THE FAN BLADES.
