XPPro stops installation over 1/2 way thru

I trying to install xp pro on a dell inspiron 7000
pentium 2 (300MHz) with 320 mb of Ram. When the system
goes into the installing windows part it stop when there
is only about 35 minutes left. The screen goes
blank/black as if someone turned of the power. I have
left it at this point for over a 1/2 hour and nothing
happens no activity light, just nothing.I then have to
manualy hold down the power button till the machine turns
off. Any ideals will be of a great help.
