XPE SP2 Upgrade

I'm installing XPE SP2 but I'd rather install it to a completely separate
database so I can still support the SP1 images in the field without having to
upgrade them. If I install SP2, will it attempt to overwrite my existing SP1
database or can I choose to install SP2 to a different database?

Thanks
Tim

Tim,

First of all, you do not have to upgrade every SP1 image when you open it in TD. You can continue building SP1 image even with SP2
database (SP2 database is just an upgrade to SP1).

Using the method described on this page
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...help/html/xetskbackingupcomponentdatabase.asp) you can switch
back and force between SP1 and SP2 databases (replacing MantisSQLDB_log database files and Repositories).

You should backup the SP1 database and Repository first.

KM, if i update the tools to SP2, will they also be compatible with SP1
components even though they are just tools?

Tim,

The tools (TD, CD, CDM) did not change from SP1 to SP2 (only minor changes in INF importer and SDI Aut dll) so you can use SP2 tools
to build either SP1 or SP2 images just fine.
