XP won't let me update

I am having problems doing Windows Updates and updating my
virus definitions. I previously had the Sasser worm and
have removed it. A friend of mine told me that Sasser did
something to XP that disabled it from installing or
updating programs. He said that he had to call Microsoft
and go into DOS mode to enter seven command prompts which
would allow installing programs. He does not remember what
the prompts were but I wanted to find out if anyone know
what they were or how to fix this problem. Thank You.

The Microsoft knowledge base should have a fix in it, do
a search there.
