XP won't install monitor driver

P

Pedro

XP Prof SP2.

Had a crash - reformated and clean install of everything.

Monitor (ImageQuest 770+) was recognised as Plug & Play. I have original
CD; it has *.inf file but no install utility. Trouble is, I can't get it to
change the monitor type to allow the proper driver to be installed.

Display Settings | Advanced | Monitor show P'n'P monitor, but no option to
change it. Control Panel | Add New Hardware just finds the P'n'P monitor,
"Have Disk" and point to original CD just displays "not driver for this
device" message. List all Devices does NOT have "Monitor" in the list, nor
does it have the manufacturer (Hyundai/ImageQuest) listed.

Win98's Add Hardware was much friendlier!!!

Any ideas? How can I get it to look at the monitor *.inf file?

TIA

Pedro

There is no installation program for an .inf file. You just point the
monitor to the file and the pertinent information is extracted to the
operating system.

Go to device manager | monitor | properties | driver | update driver.

Don't allow the system to search for the driver. Direct the system to the
appropriate .inf file using the browser.

Right click the inf and choose install.

You still have to direct the monitor to the file which would then be in the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. It doesn't happen automatically.

And that was the key! "Don't Search - I will find driver ...."

Thanks, Richard.

Been going nuts for a couple of hours!!!

Glad to help. Too bad there isn't a standard mechanism for installing
everything - everywhere. There are too many different routines a person has
to learn. (-:
