My PC with XP (w. SP1) won't allways enter standby mode (30 min) and
hybernate (60 min).

I disabled all "wake on..." functions in the BIOS, selected non 3D-screen
saver and also tried to have no apps./programs runnning - but still in most
cases it keeps on running (and consuming power).

Looked into Microsoft knowledge base..... problem should be sloved with
SP1...

Looking for ideas.....found nothing in the Event loggs... :-(

I've done some testing the passed days with respect to my standby problem
after studing the mentioned links.

First i seems to be a difference based on which time parameteres i choose.
Screensaver/Monitor/Disk/Standby/Hibernate = 1/2/3/5/10 min. is always
function (done about 10 tests in a row) - nothing changed - no driver
removed (2 HP printer drivers not signed). Also done with 5-8 different
programs running...

Parameteres set to 15/20/30/45/60 min is able to function for a while - did
ok about 5 times but then i worked on the pc for some time and it would not
enter standby any more (if the PC succed in entering standby it is able to
go to hybernate state).

I uninstalled my printer and delteded the drivers in win/sys32/drivers (sys
files). Sigverif says there are stil unsigned drivers - but i removed them
and the sysmtem would'nt run... Aspi32.sys, imagredrv.sys, npdriver.sys,
qdfsdrv.sys, sddiver.sys, symcbrd.sys, symredir.sys, symredir.inf &
symtdi.sys. I think some of the drivers are related to the display adapter
(prop ATI 9800XL), Norton SystemsWorks 2004 and window itself (?).

Any suggestions ;-)

Hi Lars,

Unsigned drivers will not necessarily be the problem, and a *signed* driver
could be. It's difficult to isolate. Just a hunch, but try disabling your
Norton tools, and see if the system responds better.

Hi Rick,

I decided to remove Norton and delete the driver files. Just 'performed one
test' and the PC went into standby...i'm going to test several
times.........

Hi Rick,

Norton antivirus 2004 and printers are now removed form my system. I'm
running in a mode set by msconfig "Load System Services" - but still the PC
Won't enter standby mode allways.

If i start the pc and log on its able to enter STB but if i work on it for a
while...open/close apps it doeas'nt always enter STB.

Shuold'n it be possible to enter STB even if somm apps are running
(explorer, word etc) ?

:-) lars
