XP Windows folder size

I have done a new install of XP SP2 on a 34 GB partition. Once Office is
installed I have a WIndows folder size of 2.9 GB. That is normal. I import
an Outlook backup.pst to this system and within 24 hours the Windows folder
is 13 - 29 GB in size. I look at all the subfolders and see noting to
indicate such a large file. The viewme.txt is 600 pages long and I have not
found what folder is exploding. Can someone point me to a specific folder?
I have wiped the system twice and started over. Each time the backup.pst is
loaded the trouble begins. The user swears they must have all the
information in this file. It is not creating havoc on the current machine
with Windows 2000.

Hi,

Suggest you download the freeware Treesize which you can get here:

Treesize
http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml

It will give you a graphical output showing the size of each folder so
you can isolate the problem.

Thank you. This prgoram works wonderfully. It found a Windows subfolder
named CSC that was 10 GB in size. This folder was created at the time and
date of the pst import. I removed the folder and all is well.

You can try to use ViewFolderSize
http://www.moveax.com/

This Windows Explorer addon works fast and show results right in the
Explorer's window.

The Windows/CSC folder returns each day with a 10 GB size. How do I find
what is creating this? I need to get rid of it permanently.

Hello again,

Try this:

Tools => Folder Options => Offline Files

Either disable offline files, or reduce the drive percentage
allocation.

Luck!
