Hi

When ever i start window's XP home I get my dell logo popping up and then xp supposed to load. Instead of loading right away it asks me or tells me first that NTLDR is compressed and to press Crl, Alt, Dlte to restart my computer. Well. The problem is it alway's will keep re-starting and never load xp. I have tried different t hing's but the only way i know how to get it to load to desktop is hitting F8, and then telling to start windows normally. I donnot know how to get it from stopping from doing this and need help. Thaks, JR

NTLDR is started very early in the boot up sequence., before the service for
compression is loaded. Therefore, if NTLDR is compressed, the system can't
use it.

I don't know how you managed to compress it. If you compress a drive with
NTLDR on it, compression of that file is denied, for the reason stated
above.

As you can manage to get in at all, the problem is weird. But I would
do two things

In My Computer right click the C: drive icon and take Properties. If
the box 'Compress drive to save disk space' is checked, uncheck it and
Apply.

Then get a new copy of the ntldr file from the CD (I think Dell provides
a 'proper' one these days with a i386 folder of files on it. have
Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected
mode ones, then Copy the files ntldr and ntdetect.com from the i386
folder of the CD into the root of C:
