xp will not install on a TIME pc

AM

i have a TIME pc that had XP and I have had to reinstall it due to viruses.

it shows the message, that the hal.dll is missing or corupt?

well after looking at on the net i found a few site that answered this but
none worked.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm is one that comes to mind

i checked with yahoo, typing 'hall.dll is missing or corupt.

The cd i have is a windows xp pro i bought about 6 or so months ago, and
also tried my other xp home cd too, but all show the same thing.

has anyone e;se had this and tried all the above and then found the correct
thing to do to get the pc to start up correctly.

thank you in advance for any help

Try booting up using the XP CD-ROM and choose to repair. Then choose the
Recovery Console Option...
Choose the number corresponding to your XP version and enter your
Administrator Password (then press enter).

After that you'll see a command prompt...enter the following command:

bootcfg /rebuild" command to fix boot.ini.
FIXBOOT will fix the boot sector on the boot drive,
FIXMBR will fix the master boot record if the NT loader
complains of a missing HAL or unmountable boot volume.

After the process is completed enter the command EXIT to quit (and the
system should auto reboot OK from that point onwards...

Call TIME tech support, for some reason their CD is not
seeing the computer as a TIME machine [pun intended]. Your
BIOS or some hidden file on the hard drive is not being seen
by the XP OEM CD>

That message is rather misleading. It happens because the boot.ini file
that tells the boot where to look for 'Windows' is damaged, so it is
looking for files in the wrong place - hal.dll just happens to be the
first one it looks for.

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Use
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot,ini
DEL C:\boot.ini
to delete the bad one
BootCfg /Rebuild

to search for Windows installations and make a new one

sorted it. for others that have this problem and have a Seagate hard drive
they are using as the (boot) C drive.

as I have a Seagate hard drive it needs the hard drive to be set up using a
DDO programme, from this address

www.seagate.com search for DDO

thank you to all that have helped.
