XP will not boot past Banner screen???

Hi Gang,
Just loaded XP Home for first time a couple of weeks ago, and all was OK for
a few days. But now it has decided not to boot up, other than remaining to
show the XP Banner screen, upon first switch on of the pc. A simple push of
the "manual" reset switch on the pc, and it boots up fine every time. Any
one have any ideas as to a fix please??

The registry should be corrupted. See if this helps:

Thank you, Jose for your prompt assistance. Unfortunately, my version IS an
OEM one, so my reading of the kb article to which you directed me, is no use
to me. I will have to keep looking further, I guess.
