XP / Vista Duel Boot question

I have already installed Vista on my Computer (I "upgraded" from XP Pro to
Visa Home Premium), but I have found that one of the programs that is
essential for my work will not run properly in Vista (even running in XP SP2
compatibility mode) and the manufacturer does not plan on updating the
program to do so. So I find that I am being forced to do a clean reinstall of
my original XP OS. My question is, can I us my Vista "upgrade" disk to do a
duel boot setup?

Hi,

The upgrade license is very specific in that it can only be used to upgrade
an existing license you own. That license becomes part of the upgrade and
can no longer be used for the original operating system. To use the upgrade
to create a dual boot such as you plan is not in keeping with the license
terms. From a technical standpoint though, you can make it work. An
alternative solution would be to install XP into a virtual machine under
Vista using Virtual PC and run your application there.

Virtual PC runs fine under Vista Home Premium, even though it's not listed
as supported:

Hi IvNurse,

Yes, you should be able to. Install XP first, then follow the
instructions in this tutorial to do a clean install of the Upgrade
version of Vista on the other partition or drive.

Hope this helps,

The problem is that his Vista is an upgrade license. To do a parallel
installation and still be able to use the XP license he is upgrading from he
needs to have a full license. The upgrade provision of the EULA requires
the user to retire the license upgraded from so he would have to remove XP
after installing Vista using an upgrade product key.

Thanks. I really like Vista and plan on using it for everything except the
one program so I am ging to try the Virtual PC option. Thanks!
