I am running Windows XP Professional on my laptop. It really worked well for months. Yesterday, when I connected it to the LAN at my work, it all of a sudden became VERY VERY slow. The start menu takes about 15 seconds to appear. The sound has become jittery, and images are taking ages to appear on the screen
I then did the following
-disk cleanu
-run disk defragmente
-did a complete virus scan with the latest update (AVG virus sacn
-uninstalled unnecessary programs and deleted unnecessary file
-did a diagnostic start-up
-checked all programs that automatically run at start-u

and now, all of a sudden the laptop “diedâ€. It has just completely blackened out and shows no sign of life. Would that be a hardware failure

Could anyone please give me some advice

Regards
Spence

I have just tried to switch my laptop on again, and it is actually booting again.

Amazing - its working again as always. Must be a miracle. It has taken up about 6 hours of my time. I'm going to pour myself a Dimple and celebrate. Cheers everyone
