XP Very slow loading of programs

When XP Professional starts all icons on the desktop load
fairly quickly. But the icons on the right side of the
system tray take a very long time to load and unable to
use until the hour glass clears. I have another machine
with XP Home and to compare it takes three times longer
with XP pro.It seems to have been since service pack two
was loaded.any help appreciated rgds Alan.
