XP, USB Drive Assignments and a Multi-Card Reader

I have several mapped network drives with assigned drive letters that for whatever reason cannot be changed. I have a USB card reader that has 4 slots and when connected adds 4 drives. They should be assigned to free drive letters but two conflict with previously assigned network drives. Is there any settings in XP that I should be looking at for the assigning of drive letters that would help resolve the conflict? The reader is a LaCie Hexa Media Drive USB 1.1 6-in-1 card reader model YD-8V14.

You should be able to re-assign drive letters in Disk Manager (Control
Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management).
All removable drives should show, and you should be able to re-assign the
letters as you need them. All changes I've made, as well as drive name
changes made in Explorer, have stuck through many reboots.

I have a Mitsumi combo FDD/card reader installed, and have had no conflicts.
