I have recently upgraded my pc, now have
Asus A7n8x deluxe motherboard, Nvidia Geforce 5600 AGP
card, 1gig of 400DDR ram and a Amd 2700+ chipset. I have
tried to use the upgrade XP professional from my current
Me and everything is going bad!!!
Upgrade will not finish and finds lots of drivers that it
wont be compatible with. I have installed all the latest
BIOS, AGP drivers and the upgrade fails even earlier now,
I have just installed two identical new 40gb hard drives
and would love some advice on the best way to clean
install XP on one/or both of them. Do I need to loose my
ME first? Apart from the upgrade I am awaiting delivery of
the complete Xp pro package.

On booting now, I get the Continue XP installation or
cancel XP instal options, if I choose the continue it
hangs and F8 wont progress, when I cancel and revert to me
I can use the pc but gaming gives steady graphics
degeneration. Not what I expected after all this expense!

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Paul.

Well, if an upgrade does not work correctly I would certainly reinstall
"clean. Get rid of whatever it is that is causing your problems.

I also have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, on 3 computers. It's a fine M/B. Reload
the operating system clean. The very first thing you want to do is to
install the M/B drivers from the Asus CD. Without them you may well have
problems. Then, turn on the embedded firewall. Then go to windows updates
and download all the critical updates and any optional updates you feel you
need. Don't forget to install an anti virus program also.

I have set up a few dozen computers with this M/B and have not had any
problems, but I NEVER do anything but a clean install!
