Presently running xp home, which came already installed with pc, along with
recovery disk supplied by pc manufacturers. Since then I have downloaded xp
service pack2, no disk. If I want to upgrade to xp pro how do I uninstall xp
home?
The file system is NTFS. The recovery disk will not allow uninstalling.

You needn't uninstall WinXP Home to upgrade to WinXP Pro. Simply
insert the WinXP Pro Upgrade CD and follow the on-screen prompts.

before buying XP-pro, really question whether you need the features of
XP pro. XP-pro doesn't come cheap.

Get the upgrade version of XP Pro, it's less costly. No need to
uninstall XP Home. The upgrade can be done with XP Home installed,
keeping the programs and data intact, or if you want, you can still do a
clean install by booting from the upgrade CD. The downside to
purchasing an upgrade version of Pro rather than the full version is
that if you need to reinstall XP Pro clean in the future using the
upgrade CD, either a qualifying OS needs to be present on the system or
you insert the installation CD for the qualifying OS when it asks, as
proof. A recovery CD from the manufacturer will not qualify so you'll
need to first install XP Home from the recovery CD then do the upgrade.
