XP Upgrade version

Can you use XP upgrade version on a reformatted disk
drive? Or does it only work to upgrade existing Win98,
etc. I have Win98 now, but would rather reformat before
using a new operating system.

Quick question as I'm in the same boat, my HD died so I had to get a new
one. I had Win 98 and was thinking of upgrading to XP so might as well as
long as I'm starting from scratch. Will it accept a 95 disk or does it have
to be 98? I upgraded to 98 from 95 but the 98 upgrade CD is all scratched
and I doubt will work correctly. I do still have the 95 full version disk
tho.
