XP troubles/hal.dll

My mistake. The way I followed it I ended up creating teh setup disks. They
are working this time, and I reformatted the HD. It just went through its
first shutdown and is is installing windows now.

I will return to let you know if it worked. I appreciate your time and
help. It has to be frustrating trying to help the blind.

It suggests you are installing a dual boot.(Possibly)
Also from your latest response to Dixonian69,......... (You wrote):

.....it sounds like you have an OEM (originally) installed WinME.
All these things need to be clarified.
Format before the new Install, if you just want one OS, and the XP Pro is
Retail rather than Upgrade.

Thanks it worked. Appreciate your time and efforts. I ended up using the
setup disks. I have no idea why they didn't work before but . . .
