XP system reboots

Hi Guys-My XP operating system has a mind of its own and when I try to close down it simply restarts itself.I recently had my sytem re formatted due to virus problems and have made sure that no viruses have come aboard.I use latest Symantic and frequently update. Have cleaned using a spyware detector.Only thing lately installed has been Roxio Platinum with updates.Grateful for advice if any
