Curent : PC boots to the Accounts screen. Clicking on my
account.. hangs the computer on "loading your personal
settings".. then after several minutes an error "Some
system files are missing or damaged. You cannot logon.
Error code Ox80040507"

Previously was working in "Selective startup" mode
through "msconfig". Switching to "normal" startup caused
the boot up/login problem.

History:
1. Problems with adware/spyware, slow PC, Norton
firewall.. etc.
2. Downloaded "Ad-aware" and it found lots of files that
were quarantined.

Maybe "Ad-aware messed up some XP system files.

I could put in the XP CD and try to repair the OS?? Any
ideas?

The "Selective Startup" mode allows you to control what programs and
processes start with Windows. Rather than say that Ad-aware messed up
your computer (and mind you, I don't say it didn't because I don't know
what you removed, although generally Ad-aware is very safe), I think
that something that is starting in Regular Mode is causing a problem.
What does a scan with a current antivirus using updated definitions
show? Can you get into Safe Mode to scan? Try doing a clean boot per:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=310353

Yes, you can do a Repair Install, but if the underlying problem still
exists (virus, for instance), that won't solve anything. You can also
put your XP cd in the drive and (if you can get to Safe Mode) do
Start>Run "sfc /scannow" to run the System File Checker.
