With in the last couple days my startup time has trippled from cpu off to the
desktop. I have Media Center 05 with the latest updates on everything. I went
into event viewer and only saw one error for every startup:

The Conexant 2388x Crossbar Dual Input service failed to start due to the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Here is what ive already done:

Checked Device manager which says the device is working fine. I can also
watch Live tv and recorded tv fine.

I unistalled it and restarted. it Still had an error at startup, an I
couldnt watch tv.

I enabled it again and restrted and XP innstalled the new hardware but it
still has the error at startup. I cant find anything in MSconfig and my CPU
works fine except for a long startup time which annoys the hell out of me.
Short of a reinstall, any suggestions?

Too many apps starting up at boot time robbing you of your system resources.
Click Start>Run>type MSCONFIG and click Enter. Click the Startup tab and
see which ones you can uncheck/disable. Do not uncheck your anti-virus app.
You can uncheck some and always recheck if needed at a later date.
Click Apply and Close. Reboot.

No its not, MSCONFIG only has NOD32 and MS antispyware. Unchecking them does
nothing to improve performance. This is related to the startup error in event
viewer.

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on
each drive / partition. To get this information whilst in Windows Explorer
place the cursor on each drive in turn, right click and select Properties.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager?
Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and
select Properties. Hardware, Device Manager. If yes what
is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK.
What drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which
are not checked.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in
the System and Application logs for the last boot and post
copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative
Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the
error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using
copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no
further information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which
appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button
and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do
a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from
the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
