Could anyone explain to me how to turnoff programs in XP that automatically
start when you boot the computer. Older versions of Windows allowed for this
in an easy way. I can find the list of programs that automatically start up
when XP boots, but there is no allowance to turn specific start-up programs
on-or-off....How does one do this with XP?

Thanks for the help and support

Hi Robert,

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup and Selective Startup (Line 148)

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

First look in the programs own Options, otherwise if you run it manually
there is a danger of it going back to Auto

Then Start - Run
MSConfig.exe
On the Startup page you can uncheck any item you do not want loaded at
start (a little care over things like AV or Firewalls is needed). Exit
- do not bother to reboot, but next time you do there will be a message
about 'System Configuration'. Check the 'Do not show again' box and
exit

If you do not have an option to turn off the auto-start in the program you
are checking in, you can use MSCONFIG to selectively turn off the program.

As I said. Please do not repeat when a post has included the point
