XP Start up disks

V

Vels

I'm about to re-format my PC with WinXP. How do I create a
startup diskette similar to the Win 98/ME options in
Add/Remove Programs applet.
I'd like a disk with Format/Fdisk etc. that I can use.
I've tried using WinME startup, however, XP setup cannot
be run under MS DOS.

Thankx,
V.

Hello
XP disks come with all the tools to delete and format the harddrive and it
is a bootable disk
Be sure to unhook all peripherals except the Monitor, Mouse & Keyboard
before beginning.
Then boot with your XP CD in the CD drive( press a key when it tells you to)
and a blue screen will come up and it will load some drivers and the it will
ask you if you want to install or repair and of course you will choose
install then press the F8 to accept the license agreement and it will walk
you through the steps to delete and format in NTFS (not the quick one).
About halfway through it will restart and you will see the message Press any
key to boot from CD and (you will do nothing) it will finish installing.

Be sure to visit MS Windows Update site when finished and download all the
critical updates for your security and safety.

Haus, would your reply be the answer to my prediciment? (My post to another XP news group pasted following).

I was trying to follow symantec's directions to remove a trojan. I was to boot in safe mode then delete each copy that I found
The computer is stuck in a DOS window that lists choices to boot into...when I use the arrow to select any of the choices (safe mode, previous working mode, normal...etc) the window blacks out and returns. There is a count down at the bottom of the window saying '___seconds until windows opens..windows doesn't open.

How can I get the machine operational? How can I boot into XP? To heck with the Trojan! - Va
