XP/sp3 and xp/sp2

Sunny T.

The machine came with XP/SP3.

Is there a way to revert from XP/SP3 to XP/SP2?

Thanks for any help.

If the computer's original condition was at the SP3 level, it would be
impossible to uninstall SP3.

To OP: If you absolutely need to run SP2, your only course of action is
a Clean Install, using an installation CD at the SP2 level (or below and
upgrade to SP2).

The larger question is why do you want to use SP2? Support for SP2 (that
is, critical security updates) will end in 2010. However, SP3 will be
supported through 2014. What specific issues do you have? 99.999% of
software that is designed to run with SP2 will also run with SP3.

No. You can only uninstall a service pack if it was installed as a
separate upgrade, not part of the original installation.

The only way to get SP2 would be to buy an older version of XP
(without SP3) and install it cleanly.

Why do you want SP2 instead of SP3? In my view that would be a serious
mistake.

Actually OP's post is open for interpretations.
"The machine came with XP/SP3"

How do we know if SP3 was slipstreamed into setup media or installed
separately? We only know OP received a computer with XP/SP3.

Since there's little information, most of us assumed OP meant it was
slipstreamed. As a result "Windows XP SP3" entry won't be in the Add/Remove
Programs. Hence my reply.
