XP SP3 and /3GB switch - cannot load profile

Hi,

Got a strange problem and it's strange by the fact that I cannot find anyone
else on the net that seems to have had these symptoms.
One of our users wanted to use more memory with Matlab and a support doc
instructed him to use the /3GB switch when booting XP to make more memry
available to Matlab. The trouble is, when we follow the instruction to copy
the boot.ini line and append with /3GB, profiles just don't load.

e.g.:
"......
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB
......"

(the 2nd boot line was copied and pasted into boot.ini, with /3GB added)

We get the error 'windows cannot load the locally stored profile...etc.'.
This happens for both loca land domain accounts, exisitng or newly created.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Timbo

Andrew,

Thanks for the reply - perhaps I'm being a bit obtuse but I can't fnd the
answer in that kb doc.

You'll have to be a bit more specific.

Hello Timboi

Did you find a solution to your problem ?

I had the same problem this morning, my machine has 3gb RAM, but
there is a integrated graphic card which takes 128Mo of the RAM. Maybe
there is a problem with this ... I can't try with a dedicated graphic
card and its own memory to compare ...

When I set the /3GB switch, I have problems like corrupted data and
impossible to load profile at logon. Everything is OK if I delete the /
3Gb switch.

Hope this helps.
