I removed my SP3 and made a clean install of sp2 and all the patches. My
computer seems to run a little faster and doesn't take as long to boot. I
will report what the patche level is.

Seems 6.00.2900.3598 is up to date for SP2.

Always reply to your original thread, Bill.

PS: Your headers (Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3598) tell us that
WinXP SP3 is (still) installed and that OE is fully patched.

I believe Robear misspoke.

Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3598 = A fully patched XP/SP2

Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5843 = A fully patched XP/SP3

Perhaps you can clear up my confusion, Bruce.

One of my PCs is still (intentionally) with XP Home, SP2. It is fully
patched.

My OE version is 6.00.2900.2180. Is this because I am running IE7
instead of IE8? How does one determine what these version numbers
correspond to?

6.00.2900.2180 is the original SP2. In OE | Help | About: Scroll down to
msoe.dll and if you are fully patched, it will read: 6.00.2900.3598.

But, you need only read your message headers as posted here:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3598

for me to see you do have a fully patched SP2. The version of IE makes no
difference.

Thanks for the explanation, Bruce.

It won't be 5 months from now! Computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be
offered any further critical security updates, Automatic Updates will cease
to function, and Windows Update website will not be available after 12 April
2010 until SP3 is installed.

I can tell you right now I do not like the IE8 at all. I'd rather run a

Or a patched IE6. I don't like IE7 all that much either. The only think
I liked better in IE7 was the addition of tabs - that's about it. And what
they did to the overall IE interface, and it's customability (or rather,
lack thereof, I should say) - ugh! (As in thanks, but no thanks. :-).
