XP SP2 will not install

During automatic update my wife accidently canceled the
installation of SP2 not really knowing what it was
doing.

I have been unable to get automatic update to try to
install SP2 again after it was canceled.

When I go to the windows updates website it lists under
the status column that Windows XP SP2 has been canceled
while all other updates are listed as succesful.

What can I do to install XP SP2 after it has been
canceled once?

Go into your Windows Directory ( use Explorer to explore the directory tree),
and look for a directory named Software Distribution. That is where XP SP2
will load or if incomplete during your last attempt, my recommendation is to
delete that directory named Software Distribution, reboot your machine, then
try windows update again. You should be able to download the file.

I tried what you suggested. First I tried to delete the
directory, but it would not let me delete all the files
since some were being used. I booted up in safe mode and
was able to delete them all. Unfortunately automatic
update still would not install SP2. There was a couple
of other updates (.NET etc.), but not SP2.

I have ordered the CD as Shenan suggested in the other
posting and will have to wait 4-6 weeks for my update?!?
At least its free.

Thanks for your help.
