Ok I think This is my Problem

Instaling XP SP2 Onto a Labtop

Now the labtop has a faulty Sound Card. I'm Pretty sure that's the Problem
With the install.

IE Winxp Discovers sound device and install Driver and hangs. Whole system
locks. Well What I actually think is happening is that when the sound card is
activated it Corrupts the PCI Bus.

Now I've resumed the install numerious times but it still crashes at the
same point. I had hope XP would notice the problem

Now I've disabled ACPI in the Bios. And Forced Just a standard HAL for the
install. But It Still Crashes.
What i need to know is how can i disable Sound Devices Detection, Or Can I
Just Disable the Driver.
I Remember Something Like that in a previous version of windows.

I'm tempted to try removing the driver ini file from the Source Directory.
Any ideas on this.

TIA

You would be well advised to install your old operating system onto the
laptop..

Have you visited the laptop manufacturer website to see if there is any XP
support for your make and model?.. if XP drivers are not available for your
laptop, you will never get it to work properly..

Sorry obviously wasen't clear enough.
I can install old os only because it doesn't have the driver for the sound
card in its internal drivers.

My problem is not that xp doesn't have the driver. Rather the reverse.
This component of the labtop is faulty and when any os tries to activate it,
The device kills the comp.

I need to stop xp from installing this device during the install process.
I just disable it in the windows profile normally.

I'm contemplating telling xp to use a dummy driver.

Found a solution in case anybody is interested
Installed 2k pro
disabled the faulty device
then upgraded it to xp pro
Xp Pro instalation ignored the disable device.
