What's the latest on this..... the last I heard it was being released in early August!!
Well..... its early August... this piggy just doesn't seem to want to come out... and it seems to have already pushed Longhorn back to 2007! :(

Dispite what people may think ... non of us here work for Microsoft, I'm not too fussed when "the release" is due, as long as it does what it says on the tin.

As for Longhorn ...

:D

Aug 2, 2004: Windows XP SP 2 Release Candidate 2 (RC2) Removed from the Web
This signifies the end of the pre-release distribution program in anticipation of the final release of SP2. Windows XP SP2 remains on schedule for release this month.

The above info comes from Technet, Microsoft's professional support arm,

I have been using the previously availiable SP2 for a while now and i have to say it is actually very very good.

Do you think it would be worth getting the 'official' one?

Probably Chris, as you will most likely have a "beta" version :)

I used the beta version on one machine. After I'd disabled all the constant security reminders, I'd say it was beneficial.

But yes, Chris, I'd say it would be worth getting the official version, all bugs (if any) will have been ironed out in the official final release. Well, until MS discover some more that is :D

lol

I think its that RC2 kid of official version so i guess its pretty close

can i just have windows update install the new one over the current one when it comes out or do i have to uninstall it?

Windows Update should do it as far as I am aware, no need to uninstall :)

Strange... I thought it was supposed to be relased on Windows Update by now?

Nope, you may not "see" it till the end of August.

MS will be updating servers over time so as not to overload the system.

If you REALLY want to get SP2 you could aways download from Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package ... you'll need a Cable connection for that, its BIG.

My advice to everyone is wait ... wait for it to become available through Windows Update site ... wait for the "earlybirds" (like me) to find any loose ends.

... as always with any new "update", secure your data before upgrading.

:D

Ah, perfect - NDO are my ISP so should be fast!

I've only been a member for a month or so, but I really like the service so far! Are you on their ADSL packages?

Yes, they have been excellent.
512KB package.

Support is good and they even try to help you when BT not working with you.

Great to see another convert :D I'm on the 1MB package, and even talked to the MD before ordering, seems like a great bunch of guys.
