A friend of mine had recently bought an xp pro edition with xp sp2 already
embedded and after installing it on his p4 had experienced some unusual
features displayed on the boot up screen inaddition to other regular
properties plus errors which had caused the machine to not to be
automatically shutdown despite of his efforts of formatting and re-formatting
the hard drive and then re-installing some other xp pro that didn't have sp2
embedded to remove the mess . He claims that the sp2 had something to do with
it and firmaly believes that the xp sp2 had flashed the system bois which
inturn had led to a curruption in system bios. Is this possible ?, and is
there any of knowing that sp2 is the reason behind this ? Please clarify this
to me.

Impossible. SP2 cannot flash the bios. That is done with a floppy disk and
flashing programs/files.
More likely he has crappy hardware and /or bad drivers.

No, SP2 doesn't do anything to the BIOS.
It's more likely that your friend's computer has defective hardware, or
defective drivers for that hardware. As for his shutdown problem, here is
an excellent resource for troubleshooting problems at shutdown:

Hello Friend,

Well As you have Described your friends Computer Issue. It seems That he Had
Some Issue with Computer Hardware Rather any Software issue. And as far as
Windows Service Pack2 is concern. It doesnt Touch BIOS of The Computer. This
is a patch for Windwos XP Operating System Which Works Within The Xp
Limitation.

Thanks
