XP SP2 Multiple users, errors.

Hi,
Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I am running XP Pro Service Pack 2 (Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2). I have
multiple accounts, one for each user, there are about 10
people that use this machine.

I installed Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 version 1.0.615
from my Admin account and it works fine with errors from
that account.

The problems come when any other user account(besides the
account I installed it from) logs on whether they are
admin or limited user accounts.
The first box that pops up the title bar says "Error" and
inside it says: "Unexpected error; quitting". If you try
to execute the program by clicking the shortcut on the
desktop, etc., it starts to load then gives the same error
message and quits.

I was messing with it trying to get it to work and somehow
I got this error message: "Warning: Microsoft Windows
AntiSpyware has encountered a critical error (Error 101).
Please restart Windows AntiSpyware and run the program
again. If you continue to experience this problem, please
uninstall the program and install the most recent version
of Windows AntiSpyware. You can use Add or Remove Programs
in Control Panel to uninstall this version of Windows
AntiSpyware."

This error is listed on the Microsoft page where you can
download the program under the Release Notes where they
list 'known errors'. The recommended fix is to repair the
installation and if that doesn't work to uninstall and
reinstall. I tried those and it still gives the error
messages.

I also tried to repair the installation from a user other
than the one I installed it with and got the "Unexpected
error; quitting" message again.
And also 5-10 errors that went like this: "Error 1904.
Module (Here was listed the path for a .dll file. They
were all in Windows\System32\ or Program Files\Microsoft
AntiSpyware\ folders)failed to register. HRESULT -
2147220473. Contact your support personnel." The HRESULT #
was the same on all of them.

My guess is the registry keys are per user and not local
machine so it has to write them for each user and for some
reason it's not doing that right. But what do I know? I'm
not a programmer.

If anyone has any fixes I'd love to hear them, you can
email me. Just put Microsoft AntiSpyware in the subject
line.

Thanks,
Rachel

You are probably roughly correct about the cause of the error.

This is the state of beta1, at the moment, I'm afraid.

It does not work properly with multiple users, nor with limited users.

This is an issue inherited with the existing codebase which was purchased
via acquisition of a third-party. Beta2 will be written to incorporate a
number of standards--accessability, localization, and more--and this issue
will be taken into account--I don't know how well they'll do, but at least
the rules will be made clear, I think.

Thanks for the response. I figured there was no easy way
around it. We'll just have to wait on them it fix it.

I've seen folks mess with registry permissions to attempt to work around
this, but I haven't recorded the details--I wouldn't recommend it.
