I have an older computer and am currently running (successfully) Windows XP
with SP1. I have received the CD with SP2 on it, however hard drive space is
an issue. Will the installation of SP2 over-write SP1 so it doesn't require
the total amount of hard drive space for both SP1 and SP2? Hope I'm making it
clear what my question is. Thanks in advance for any answers.

If you don't have enough free disk space to install SP2
then you should get another disk now, because things
will keep getting worse. Even a second-hand 10 GByte
disk (which you could for next to nothing) will suffice.

SP2 will take up 500 megs alone for the directory
WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 - for it's file protection system

This directory can relocated to a CD if you really need the space.
