XP SP2 hang time

My Windows XP MCE 2005 has started to hang at odd times for about 2-5
seconds. i've run anti-virus, anti-spyware, reg cleaners, and disk
defragmenters but nothing impacts the problem.

Example: Just working in ANY program, the mouse/keyboard freezes. No
observable cause. CPU is nominal. Free memory over 1GB. Happens in IE7, and
Windows Apps.

Any clue what to do/check next?

What does "CPU is nominal" mean? Download Process Explorer from Microsoft,
run it and watch it to see what is happening when the system pauses.

As a side note, there is no advantage to running a registry cleaner,
especially when letting them automatically fix every "problem" if finds.
Unused entries in the registry do not, as a rule, cause problems, but
removing the wrong one can. If you have been regularly using a registry
cleaner before this problem occurred one possibility is that it caused it.

Don't use them.
