Hi,

All of a sudden, most of my folders on all drives are READ ONLY. In
Windows explorer, unchecking this option and clicking APPLY does not
seem to correct this....

Any ideas how to fix this and also is it a known issue or perhaps a
virus or??

THANKS FOR ANY HELP

This is a cosmetic issue only and is the default value in XP. It is ignored
by Windows.

Thx for the info....problem is some programs (Picasa, Agent 2x when
trying to view some files still in agents database) will fail when
either the READONLY *OR* / AND the System attribute is set.

Anyway, using ATTRIB -s -r /S /D did solve the problem. While
windows OS itself seems to ignore the bit, seems like lots of apps
fail ...and give varying error messages

again...thx for the link

I use both programs and have not had to reset the readonly attribute on
folders. The command you used would have changed all the files as well as
the folder. It was probably a file that caused the problem. You could test
this by restting the folders only to readonly. Not sure about the system
attribute. The folders wouldn't normally have that attribute set.
