Harryo

I have just had a new version of Windows XP Professional loaded onto
my computer and having downloaded all the latest security patches etc
I am now looking at the software updates.

For my system Windows updates are showing 9 software upgrades, but
there are two versions of Microsoft .NET Framework (version 1.1 and
version 2).

Do I have to download version 1.1 first or can I just download version
2?

They are fairly big downloads so I dont really want to download both
versions if I do not have to.

Hi there, Framework updates are optional, but eventually you may/will need them.

I personally would start with 1.1 (once 1.1 is downloaded you may need to download the service pack
for that one also)
and then move up to 2.
V1.1 and V2 are different and co-exist so to speak.

I'll be loading those updates on a friend's computer in the next couple of days.

If you're worried about the size, do you have a friend to download them for you and burn them to CD?

Thank you for the advice, I did as you suggested downloading version
1.1 first then its accompanying Service Pack 1 plus a security update.

Then finally downloaded version 2, took a while as I am on a modem
dialup system!
