Can anyone help with this one?
My XP pro SP1 (single user) running on a 1,5GHZ machine
appears to have slow-down that I cannot figure out.
For example: OE6 takes 6 sec to wake up
: Explorer 8 sec
: IE6 l4 sec slowly putting the screen
: components in one by one.
: Excel only 2 sec
Worst: MSW about 16 sec to show document.
Is it NAV? I heard a rumour about a bad update
Is is having run a DOS pgm with a pif file that activates
System32/Config.NT which has: dos high umb
device=... himem.sys
files=40
As far as security goes, I run Mailwasher, Ad-aware and NAV.
I run the minimum of services, hibernate is off and during the
delay Ctl-Alt-Del shows no uninvited pgms running except"system
and the hdd is quite busy.
Defragged but was not really necessary.
Any unwanted registry changes that could have taken place?
Norton SW appears happy with it and reports no errors.
Unfortunately I can not remember exactly at what point in time
this problem started.
Thanks in advance.
