XP Shutdown Problems

I have XP Home Edition and the system will no longer shut
down properly, requiring manually turning off the
computer. Service Pack 1A was installed, I've defragged,
run Norton Win Doctor but still having the problem. Any
suggestions on how to diagnose and fix this problem?

go to control panel power options and enable advanced power management and
hibernation. also check your system bios is set to allow this under power
options in the bios (press f2 or delete to enter set up when starting your
computer)

Sounds like you have a system powerdown problem rather than a Windows
shutdown problem. See:
