XP Setup Question

After replacing a hard drive on a computer, I re-installed Windows XP on it.
I thought I went through the normal steps to re-install that I have always
done on previous installations, but when it reboots, it always stops on a DOS
screen and asks me to press F1 to continue or F2 to run setup utility. We
press F1 and it continues to boot to Windows. What can we do to
bypass this prompt?

That sounds like it has nothing to do with Windows and everything to do with
your system BIOS. Something is not configured right (hardware-wise) - go
into your BIOS and try to correct this issue.

Hi Shenan:

Thanks for your quick response.

Well I changed the boot sequence when I was installing XP to boot from CD
first, but once I installed XP, I went back and changed the boot order to
hard drive first and either CD or floppy next. Does it matter which is second
after hard drive?

Thanks!

That isn't a "DOS screen;" it's the computer's BIOS. To fix it, read
the accompanying error message, enter the BIOS, and then correct
whatever problem was being reported.

This message typically pops up when your BIOS has hit a snag... Check your
BIOS setting to see if it is set to "Halt On:" and then you SHOULD have
options... Bios vary a lot on what they are capable of... Halt On: should be
set to Keyboard... if it set to all you will get stuck at any little tiny
error, even if its been fixed by the bios during bootup... The most common
problem is people not using the standard keyboard and mouse connector on a
motherboard that does not support, or has no support for legacy USB keyboard
or mouse detection... Check your Keyboard connection and make sure it is
properly connected, and if you loaded defaults for your bios make sure you
check that you have Legacy USB support IF you are using a USB keyboard...

Also try clearing all external ports of all devices... disconnect your iPod,
Camera, Webcam, Printer(if its usb), memory card stick, USB headset, or
anything else you may have attached Firewire or USB... I know for a fact that
any iPod makes my PC not boot when connected...

There is so many things that could be wrong so i tried to point you to a few
options... not a complete list but its things to look at....
