xp service pack 2 browser problem.

I downloaded the XP sp2 and now my explorer
browser crashes instantly. I double click my desktop icon
and it crashes with the following error information:
Error Signature:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName:
unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00149069

The repair in the registry won't work ( but there are two
registry entries, one with a cdf prefix, I tried the
repair on the one without it). Reboot and it says there
is already a newer version installed. Download and run
ie6setup and get the same error message.
Here's the funny thing, if I do a search fomr my computer
( not browser )and select internet search, explorer will
open and stay open. It will not open anything in a new
window, but the original first page will work flawlessly.
I have run sbybot, adaware, and my trend antivirus. I am
using XP 5.1, explorer 6.0, XP 3000+ and have performed
all necessary windows updates. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. THank you
