Hello, I am a new user of XP and I have a problem:
I use XP Home Edition on my Compaq laptop and the decal
with the Product Key was put on the bottom of the unit.
Guess what? I no longer have the decal. Where could I find
this key number again? I know how to find this using the
DOS commands with Win98, but cannot find the serial number
even in the registry with XP. I want this in the event I
would ever have to re-install my O/S if I had to.
This is a legal and validated O/S as I have SP1 on and all
the latest updates(I won't put SP2 on yet). I checked with
the store I bought the unit from, but they were of no help.
Thank you

Unless you have reinstalled or repair installed since you got the laptop,
the Product Key is probably the generic key used to install from the factory
and not the Product Key you need to reinstall. Contact Compaq and relate the
problem to them before reinstalling
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box
