XP Search,search hidden files?

Any suggestions as to how to force XP home SP2 to default to search "search hidden files and
folders"? I am aware that most optional search plug in's will do it, but all I need or want is a
simple, low overhead, search function. I don't need all the bells and whistles.

In Search Companion have you checked the boxes under
More Advanced Options to:

Search system folders.
Search hidden files and folders.
Search sub-folders.

Mine are checked and this setting is retained.

Hope this helps.

Agent Ransack is a free third-party search program that is simple, low
overhead, and easy to use. It's much faster than Windows search and searches
for hidden files and folder. I receommend giving it a try.

Thank you all for the responses. I have done the above numerous times but "Search hidden files and
folders" is the only one that fails to stick on a saved search or the start menu search files and
folders. It has always worked fine on 96, 98, 98SE. but no go under XP either SP1 or SP2.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View,
Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and
folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is
unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should
also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types"
is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected
and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total
Size, and Free Space.
