XP search function STILL not fixed

Search function on start menu not working. When you
search for a file. When you open search, the intial wind
opens,fill in search criteria and hit search. Hour glass
comes up and stays up with no action. X out window pane,
I get message "program not responding" How do I fix?
Other previous solutions not working

I tried that, doesn't work. When I open task manager, i

see explorer.exe not responding to search request. I have
reloaded SRCHASST.INF from wind xp disk too. Seems like
connection between Search and explorer.exe is broken??/
