Tried to troubleshoot a problem for my nieces last night. They have 2
computers a desktop (wired to router) and a laptop (wirelessly
connected to router). Last night, desktop computer showed "low or no
connection" warning and my niece couldn't access the Intenet, email,
MSN Messenger, etc. Meanwhile niece #2 kept happily surfing on the
laptop.
Clearly, problem is not on the ISP side. To fix the desktop computer,
I ask Desktop Niece to reset the TCP/IP protocol by running the
NETSH... command. After running this one-liner in DOS, the connection
showed CONNECTED. However, she still couldn't load a WEB page in IE or
Firefox. Shutting down the computer or restarting simply recreated the
problem: no connectivity until we ran NetSH command again.
Any idea what may cause the loss of connectivity at startup and more
importantly, why she can't access the Internet even after Network
Connections appears to be CONNECTED? Other things we tried: running
REPAIR, dissabling FIREWALL, changing settings by unchecking
"Autodetect Internet settings" in IE Tools-Options, unplugging and
replugging modem, router.
Suggestions and comments would be much appreciated! Andre
