i have seen other messages with this problem. After
upgrading from win98 to xp pro my comp. will restart
after about 15min of inactivity. I disabled the screen
saver and power settings. I turned off auto restart and
now it crashes and i have to hard boot it. The error
message is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. As long as i'm using
the computer the system is fine. I've done a sysytem
scan "sfc scannow" and a win xp repair to no avail. Any
suggestions??

You did the right thing by turning off auto restart - you want to see that
blue screen because it helps you identify the problem.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is typically an indicator of an incompatible or
corrupt device driver. Before you upgraded from Windows 98, did you make
sure that all your hardware and drivers were compatible with Windows XP? See
here for more details:

I am having a similar problem. However my problem happens
right when I am in the middle of working on the computer.
I cannot explain why all I get is a complete restart
(whenever the computer wants to it seems), usually when I
am on the web transitioning from one program to the next.
It seems to happen when the computer is working to hard.

Tom,
There were no compatibility issues when I ran the
utility. Any other ideas? Thanks for responding.

Are you using the most recent Windows XP drivers for all your hardware?
