XP Repair

I have tried to do a sytem restore but it just will not work, even after
disabling Norton. So i tried to do a repair using the orig XP CD. It boots
from it fine, searches the PC for config etc, then I get a page with the
Licence agreement, Press F8 to accept, and when i do this the thing just
hangs, no more instructions showing. So im left with no option but to
escape. Can anyone point me in the right direction please
Bill

boot up...
even to safe mode of Windows cannot start normally

open a command prompt and issue the command chkdsk /f

it will ask you if you want to run the disk check at next startup

then say yes

and reboot

that should at least repair logical errors on the drive
if there are any.

If your system is still problematic

then you might be able to complete the repair install.

If not...

run a RAM test and a HD diagnostic

I am still trying to load a programme Magix Movie), with no avail, have even
tried as was suggested to copy to hard drive and install from there, but
this wont run either. There is nothing wrong with the inst CD as it loads Ok
on my wifes laptop and another PC. Somehow my system will not read the disc.
I was therefore trying to system restore to the last dat it worked ok ,
which was 23 Oct, or try a windows repair.

you might have
to uninstall norton.

norton protects the boot
sector will not allow changes
to the system, even via repair
installation and via system
restore.

depending on how it is
configured, norton can
even deny the user access
to windows.

To me it sound like the problem may be your CD Device... can it read the XP
CD from Windows Explorer? if Explorer does read the CD, it could be a RAM
memory issue.

Also update your Windows Installer, your version may be preventing the
installation of Magix Movie... If that doesn't help, install or update NET
Framework.
