Is there any possibility that you may have had two HDDs set as "Master" on
the same IDE controller? Your symptoms certainly sound that way.

If you BOOT from the CD and still can't even install XP on the HDD, again my
question above sounds likely.

Make sure that all HDDs are set properly (jumpers) and if that doesn't
resolve anything, post back a reply to that effect and any other info that
might be helpful to any of us in trying to help you.

First try resetting your BIOS. When the HDD doesn't boot properly, I have
found this to work in at least one case.

Next (assuming the above doesn't do it), you might have a failed
installation of XP on your HDDs (if they failed before completing
installation this is very likely). If this is the case, set your CD as
primary boot device and boot from a WinXP CD, choose to do a REPAIR INSTALL
and if it completes successfully you should be all set.

If this won't install successfully, disconnect ALL but one HDD, Video card
(remove all other cards) and try to do a REPAIR INSTALL again.

cd it still freezes in windows startup...

OK i type R and and just says c:/windows what commands am i suppost to use also when boot from hdd it says disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter what does this mean and how do i create a system disk
Thanks

If you boot from CD and choose the Repair Install, no commands are required.
It should complete the "repair install" and after that when you change your
boot setup (in BIOS) back to the HDD first, it should boot just fine (it
creates the C drive as a "system disk".

After you run the Repair Install, make sure to remove the CD so your system
doesn't try to boot from the CD each time.
