XP Reload Killed Sound & NAV

My system lockup/haywired for unknown reasons and I did a reinstall/repair
of XP2 w/sp2. Most everything works except sound controls and Norton AV . I
replaced NAV with AVG after spending hours trying to fix NAV. I can't get
the sound (AC97) to work. I've tried removing the AC97 drivers and replacing
them with a fresh load but the system loads the old nonfunctioning set. I've
got all the latest AC97 drivers.

How can I get the system to load a new set of drivers?

Drivers load differently. Look at the "readme" file included with the
drivers. Look at the web page that tells you how to install the particular
drivers. Find out their recommended procedure.
